New classes begin January 28

We’re now preparing for new classes to begin on Thursday, January 29, 2015!

Please call or email Ross Arnold at (376)766-1238 if you’re interested in attending any of these classes. (All classes are free. You only need to buy the textbooks if you are pursuing a degree or certificate.)

Here are the new class descriptions.

*Apologetics – Thursdays, 10 a.m.-noon
Christian Apologetics is the discipline that combines Christian theology and philosophy to present a rational basis for the Christian faith, especially as a means to defend the faith against objections.  Our class will examine practical ways in which Christianity can be effectively presented and defended with historical evidence, philosophical arguments and other intellectual disciplines.

Texts:  Reasonable Faith: Christian Truth and Apologetics, William Lane Craig; $17.00 USD

The New Evidence That Demands a Verdict, Josh McDowell; $27.00 USD

*Biblical Interpretation – Thursdays, 1 p.m.-3 p.m.
Interpretation of Scripture is best done through an understanding and application of the related disciplines of exegesis and hermeneutics. Exegesis is the means of accurately determining what the text says; while hermeneutics concerns itself with interpreting what the text means.  Our course will use techniques of exegesis and hermeneutics to create an effective and comprehensive approach to analyzing, interpreting and articulating the message of Scripture.

Texts:  Grasping God’s Word, J. Scott Duvall; $31.00 USD

*Communications and Homiletics – Fridays, 1 p.m.-3 p.m.
Homiletics is the discipline of practical theology concerned with preaching and teaching Christian truth.  This course will focus on how to prepare sermons and teachings, as well as a practical approach to better communications through a more effective presentation style.

Text:  12 Essential Skills for Preaching, Wayne McDill; $23.00 USD
